Grouping values can be added using what is called a 'properties file'. This file is currently not available via the product, however, it can be requested via your Capacity Planner technical contact. This is a simple CSV with a unique identifier for each entity that is being managed by Capacity Planner (ie, virtual machine, host, physical server, network device etc). Any column added to this file will be treated as a new grouping category. Identify the entities that you wish to have a value for that grouping category and enter that into the CSV. When complete, return the file to your technical contact who will ensure it is added to your environment.
When doing this, please be mindful to ensure that only entities that should have a value for this grouping are given a value. Should an entity on a row in the CSV file not have a value for that grouping, simply leave it blank. Also, to avoid potentially confusing sunburst configurations, it is best to ensure that hosts and virtual machines do not share groupings. Should you wish to do this, it is recommended that a separate host grouping and vm grouping column be introduced into the CSV.
