Is there a method to ensure that two different self-announcing Netprobes connect to the same gateway so that gatewaySQL can function? When using gatewaySQL, I know I may specify only one gateway in the self-announcing setup, however, it negates some of the benefits of self-announcing, such as load balancing and rebalancing.
Answer:
This setup is not possible.
Remember that the rationale for connecting to a certain gateway is not changeable to this level; the SAN determines which GW to connect to, but it is dependent on the GW load at the time, precisely to maintain the environment balanced.
Score
Self-Announcing Netprobes use the Gateway score to determine what Gateway to connect to. Each Netprobe gives an individual score which represents the load it puts on a Gateway. The Gateway score is the total of the scores from every Netprobe on a Gateway. The score is a measure of how loaded a Gateway is and represents the number of samplers configured on a Netprobe.
Keep in mind that load balancing will continue to function on the remaining netprobes. The system should rebalance itself as long as not all netprobes have this Gateway constraint.
