Context
The customer has an OP5 cluster and is considering the following scenarios:
- Running different OP5 versions within the same cluster
- Adding a new OP5 node that is on a different version than the existing cluster
Problem
OP5 nodes running different versions are not compatible within the same cluster.
For example, communication between OP5 8.x and 9.x is not supported.
Clarification
All nodes in an OP5 cluster must be running the same version, including the minor release.
- Example: OP5 8.4.x vs 8.3.x
- This may appear to work in some cases, but it is not supported and not recommended
- The Merlin version must also match across all nodes
- If versions differ, Merlin will typically return errors and cluster communication may fail
Recommendation
To ensure stability and proper cluster functionality, all OP5 nodes should be aligned to the exact same version (including minor version) before being added to or operated within the cluster.
