Geneos - Why can't I connect Express Reports to my MS SQL server named instance

Configure the datasource in the GSE

Name: <Name>

Options: SQLServer

Server Name: <IP Address>

Database name: <Database name>

Port: <port of instance>

Authentication:

User name: <SQL Authenticated User not Windows authenticated>

Password: <password for the above user>

By default named instances will be set to use dynamic ports. This means when the SQL Server restarts it can start on a different port. This will cause connections to fail, so best to set the instance to use a specific port
