The content of this FAQ has been updated and migrated to the following topics in docs.itrsgroup.com. Refer to the following:
https://docs.itrsgroup.com/docs/geneos/current/data-collection/top.html#tailOffPeriod
Chances are, you're using a Solaris OS and that the PPID of the process was killed. In addition, check for the "Tail off period" setting, which you can find via GSE > Samplers > Top plugin's Advanced tab. Chances are this is enabled, having a numeric value which is in the seconds (time) format. By default, this is disabled.
Enabling the "Tail off period" optional feature will continue to display processes that have breached the assigned "Threshold parameter" value for the specified amount of time in seconds. For example, if you set "Threshold parameter" value to 10 (by default, Pcpu would be that parameter) and have enabled the "Tail off period" by assigning a number to it, i.e. 180 (seconds), then, the process would be displayed in the data view for 180 seconds despite the process no longer breaching the assigned value (10%) for the "Threshold parameter"
We recommend that you always use the latest document version in https://docs.itrsgroup.com/ to keep you up-to-date.
